How Do I Write A Resume? Test Yourself
In recent years there has been a trend for many young people to have held several jobs rather than having stayed with a single company for a long period of time. There are many reasons for this including a desire for new challenges, different experiences and of course greater pay. This has led many to ask the question, ‘ How do I write a resume?’ and this article will discuss the key points you need to consider when creating an effective attention getting resume.
The first question you need to ask yourself when writing a resume is did you include a career objective? This is simply a one to two sentences detailing the things you are looking for in a job, both now and in the future. This allows a potential employer to see exactly what you are seeking in a job but also that you have given thought to your career and its growth. All employers need to plan for the growth of their company and will be actively looking for employees that will do the same.
Another question you should ask yourself is whether your educational and employment history are relevant to the position you are applying for. Resumes should only be a page or two in length. As space is limited everything you include in your resume needs to be specific and relevant to the job you are seeking. If it isn’t, rewrite it in such a way that it displays a desirable character trait rather than removing it. Every job or qualification that you have can be summarized in a positive and beneficial way.
The last question you should consider before sending your resume is have you done everything you can to make it easy for a potential employer to read and understand your resume? Is your resume nicely formatted with easy to read text and suitable blank spaces? Does it flow logically from one part to the next? You may spend hours writing your resume, but an employer may spend as little as a minute looking at it. If it is too hard to read or doesn’t make sense there is a good chance that they will simply move on to the next one.
